The new national standard for energy efficiency of instant water heaters will be implemented in 2025, and the proportion of first-class energy efficiency products will exceed 60%

The energy efficiency entry threshold will be significantly raised. The new national standard will be officially implemented on June 1, 2026, and is expected to drive industry technology upgrades and push the market share of first-level energy efficiency products to exceed 60%.

The National Standardization Administration has issued GB 21519-2025 "Energy Efficiency Limits and Energy Efficiency Grades for Instant Electric Water Heaters". The new standard raises the energy efficiency entry threshold by 20%, raises the first-level energy efficiency thermal efficiency requirement from 90% to 94%, and includes standby power consumption (≤2W) and water temperature stability assessment for the first time. The new regulations will be implemented in June 2026, and are expected to push the first-level energy efficiency product market share to over 60%, reducing carbon emissions by about 2 million tons per year. Consumers should look for the 2026 version of the energy efficiency label when purchasing.
